2.1. Printer Driver Installation

Note 1: It is recommended to install the driver before you connect the printer to the PC!
Note 2: System administrator privileges are required for driver installation!
Log on to Windows as system administrator.
Start the installer program 'Setup XID5xx 5.5.exe' from your driver CD ROM. Follow the
instructions (See the following screen shots).
The installation itself contains two separate steps in one installation procedure: First the printer
device driver and second the printer driver itself.

  Despite its high performance, the EDIsecure XID 580ie dual-sided ID card pritner is absolutely easy to operate. It features a smart LCD display that provides printer status information via text messages, and traffic light-type changes in the color of the LCD display. The powerfully-developed printer driver of the XID 580ie retransfer printer comes with a user-friendly graphical user interface, providing alerts when errors occur, and ribbon and card level monitoring via the Media Status Monitor. Plus, its Admin Center software allows for convenient handling of printer settings for every card type.


• Vibrant, over-the-edge card printing
  The EDIsecure XID 580ie features Enhanced Image Processing (EIP), providing true over-the-edge printing with crisp, clear colors and flawless continuous tones on any card material (e.g., PVC, ABS, PET, Polycarbonate,etc.) - including technology cards with embedded electronics that typically have uneven, or bumpy, surfaces.


• Easy card handling
  Blank card stock is loaded into a pull-out drawer that can accommodate 300 standard 30mil CR80 cards. Plus, cards can be added to the drawer while printing to provide an interruption-free workflow. Different types of card types and thicknesses can be accommodated with a quick change using the selector built into the drawer. Additional card drawers are available for customers that frequently alternate between card types.


• High volume ribbon
  Spools of standard color ribbon (YMCK) and re-transfer film can print up to 1,000 single-sided cards before requiring replacement, and replacement is simplified by the use of color-coded cartridges. Plus, the XID 580ie printer offers convenient front access for ribbon and card supplies loading.

  Protect your printing application and cards from counterfeiting and misuse of data with the XID 580ie's security features. These state-of-the-art features include encrypted data transfers through your network with IPSEC security, Security Erase of black data on used supplies, and UV ink ribbon to print invisible features on your cards.


• Optional encoding
  Access rights, time and attendance, debit transactions and countless other functions can all be combines on one card, using different technologies. Whatever the application - barcode printing, magnetic stripe and/or smart card encoding - the XID 580ie prints and encodes in a single step. Plus, chip encoding is now as easy as magnetic stripe encoding with Digital ID's Advanced Chip Encoding Framework (CEF). This toolkit provides integration of multiple encoding technologies through on easy-to-use plug-in.


• Optional lamination
  In addition, the EDIsecure Inline Lamination Unit option will increase visual security and protect your cards from everyday use and exposure. An array of laminate materials are available to your, based on your needs. Digital ID provides overlaminates in varying thicknesses,in clear and holographic, plus overlaminates can be customized for a higher level of card security. The EDIsecure Inline Lamination Unit can also be purchased with the optional EDIsecure ILU Turnover Unit for duplex lamination.
