Very Disappointed Dishwasher Owner
I have this dishwasher too. It was ok in the beginning but now, the top shelf falls, even after replacing rollers and it never cleans properly. I got on this product review page to see what I needed to do to make it better, but after seeing the reviews, I think I may have bought a dud and need a new one. It's so very sad!!! Seriously Simpson? Why are you still in business? Shame on you. I have a 30 odd year National microwave which is still going as strong as ever. Been thinking about replacing, but why replace something that's not broken. I wish you all would make things like you use to (BUILT TO LAST)!!!!!!! These days it's all about making money!!! :-(
Purchased in April 2006 for $500.00.

10 years and going well
Other than a couple of to draw rollers breaking it works amazing. I leave a space between plates to allow water through (cant expect it to clean if water can hardly get between the plates). I use tablets because they are easier and quite cheap. It is a bit noisy, but it is in the kitchen so I dont hear it in my bedroom and is quieter than my washing machine. Overall it is exceptional, especially considering how cheap it was.

I got a good one :)
These machines are hit and miss. They are cheap. Made cheap with poor quality control. Designed to fit the hole in a rental unit and that's about it.
I am in said rental unit with one of these machines. This is the 52B850SJ00 model, stainless steel. It is cheap. Stains easily, a bit noisy and uses more water than more expensive machines.
With that said, it washes the dishes quite well when using a decent dishwasher powder or tablet. I am one of the lucky ones who has one of these machines that works the way it should. Even on the eco cycle, it cleans and dries effectively. Eco cycle takes about 1 hour, the 'Plus' cycle takes about 2 hours. I honestly can not complain about it other than it being a bit noisy. For a cheap machine, it is quite effective. I have monitored electricity usage and it doesn't use an excessive amount nor does it use excessive water really. I have seen reviews for this model stating about long cycles and how that must use a lot of water, obviously people who do not understand that the water usage is the same regardless of cycle length on the machine. They fill to a set point, then the water is recycled through the pump for the wash cycle. These machines do have longish wash cycles as they heat the water, the timer stops until the water reaches temperature then continues. This can time can be reduced by having a plumber put a hot/cold mixing tap in and using preheated water. I would not suggest using pure hot water though as these machines are not designed for that. The times I quoted are based on the designed cold water only usage though.
Would I buy one myself? No. The quality is too unpredictable. If you get a good one, they work great, but get a bad one and you have nightmares. It really is pot luck, almost 50/50 as to getting a good or bad. There is no in between with this machine.

Pathetic dishwasher
I bought a house where we inherited the dishwasher Silencio Simpson 850 model from the previous owner. We loaded all the dishes and bowls for Potscrub wash, however they were still very dirty when the cycle got complete. I changed my detergent as well but the result was still the same. The place where I used to live earlier had dishwasher from Blanco company and it was too good and it used to not only wash the dishes but also rinse and dry to a level that we can use them for use immediately when cycle got complete. If someone from electrolux can assist me then good, if not then I will be replacing this dishwasher.

Great value machine
The owner of the house purchased this dishwasher initially based on price. I was cynical given its fairly drab appearance and manual controls. This is all superficial however as the machine cleans well, albeit a bit noisy however ten years later it is still going strong and for this reason alone I think it is testament to the build quality for an inexpensive machine

disappointed with this dishwasher
Need to thoroughly rinse before stacking,or dishes come out dirty, also dispenser doesn't release powder. having to buys blocks to throw in bottom, Top basket falls off sliders, trying to fix a moment NOT WINNING!!!! just building a new home and definitely wont be buying a Simpson.no favourite features just wish it would do what its job.

Shocking!!
We bought this unit for a holiday house so it has had very gentle and intermittent use (only when we have houseguests) but I must say that that this dishwasher is not fit for purpose. It is regularly cleaned - filter and sprayer ;but dishes are NEVER clean at finish.
Despite trying many forms of detergent - powder, tablets, liquid of reputable brands etc the container always contains residue.
I am extremely unhappy and would advise against purchase.

Don't understand why everyone is having so many problems with this unit
This is only the 3rd place I've lived in that has a dishwasher so can't say I'm that experienced with them, but I bought this house 3.5 years ago. Personally I haven't really had any of the problems others have mentioned that I haven't been able to overcome.
1 - Powder not emptying - never ever had this problem. But then I have only ever used Finish tablets in it, not powder.
2 - Dishes not clean / need to scrape everything off - I assumed you have to scrape any leftovers off the dishes for any dishwasher? Which I have always done and never had dishes come out dirty. I also only ever use it on the 'Regular Plus' cycle as I'm not a cheapskate.
3 - Dishes not dry - yes if I pull them out straight at the end of it's cycle they are. But the manual says to open the door for half an hour at the end, which if I do that they are always dry at the end. Plus I've never used rinse aid in it, so perhaps if I used that then they would come out dry without needing to air for the half an hour?
4 - Using too much water - according to the manual, on regular plus cycle which I use, it uses around 23L of water. At around 90c per KiloLitre for water, that equates to around 2 cents worth of water usage per load. And people complain about this! I don't understand!
5 - Wheels on the top shelf breaking - never had this problem and been using it for 3.5 years. Then again I have never used rinse aid, so perhaps that has something to do with it?? I also only have cold water plumbed to it, not hot, so maybe that also may have an effect perhaps?
6 - Leaking - yes we had this at the start and it was user error. We had 2 problems, first we simply weren't pushing the door closed hard enough, as it requires some force to properly close. Second was the drain that is plumbed into the sink drain was getting knocked out by us putting tall bottles and things in the drawer under the sink. Since realising our 2 mistakes there it has never leaked since.
7- Stuck on a cycle overnight - never had this problem.
8 - Filter needing constant cleaning - I've only cleaned out the filter once in our 3.5 years here, and that was just out of interest rather than necessity.
Sorry to everyone that's had problems with this unit, but I'm a technician by trade, and as always once I figure out how to correct the human errors associated with operating any sort of machine such as this, and learn to use the machine striclty how it's designed to be used, you usually have no more problems!
Once you learn how to use it properly it just works
Front panel facia is very deteriorated, but this could most likely be due to incorrect cleaning efforts by the previous ownders.

A very bad choice
I purchased this model some time ago. We have replaced the seal along the bottom because of leaks - and it still leaks. We have replaced the powder dispenser and found the wiring was placed in such a way that it jammed the working it. Now, I am replacing the wheels on the top rack. It is a terrible machine. I am sorry I bought it. Electrolux this is a dud! Would NEVER buy a Simpson again and would have to be seriously pushed to buy an Electrolux. A huge disappointment. And I concur with others about the poor rinsing, not drying and not washing properly.
April 18th 2018 Update: Replacement part failure
This product worked fine but for whatever reason Electrolux decides NOT to provide replacement part 0571400153 which joins the pump to the sump. They are more than happy to take your money to buy every other part but have discontinued one of the most important parts for this model. It would and should be classed as fraud for selling other replacement parts and failing to supply this. Seven different brand names. Same company. Beware purchasers!
the white finish
Wont rinse properly. Doesn't wash properly. Leaks. Expensive and MANY repairs and replacements required

Beware of this waste of space
This is by far the worst dishwasher we have ever had, powder set in the bottom, dishes don't dry, and the wheels on the top shelf need replacing regularly, and they are not cheap to buy, top shelf is a very bad and expensive to fix design, 0/10 ! Stay well away from this flop !
Looks ok from out side but that's it
Everything, wheels mainly which are expensive to replace !

Great little machine

Bad diswasher
We bought a house with this dishwasher in 2008. This is the worst dishwasher ever! It does not dry, nor rinse very well. There is always muck on the dishes. It also now has a leak in the bottom left hand corner, and after replacing all the seals and have a technician look at it, we still have the problem. It is time that we remove this piece of junk. I would be surprised if the scrap dealers found anything useful.

Terrific dishwasher
This is a fabulous basic dishwasher with nothing to go wrong. We have had ours for years without trouble. Unlike the Blanco DW at another house we lived in recently, this one actually cleans the gear & is quiet. I am surprised at all the negative posts I have seen here. Simpson have been great with us over the years, really standing by their products.
Quiet, efficient, no electronics to go wrong. Basic dial control.

Terrible
We move alot because of employment so I have experience of lots of different dishwashers. This is the worst by miles. Unfortunately my last 2 houses have had this dishwasher! I find it especially annoying because for years previously I have had 2 Fisher & Paykel machines & a Miele and neither of these require rinsing or rewashing or constant clearing of the filter basket. It's like going back in time using this dishwasher!
Can't think of any...
I hate everthing about this machine. It doesn't clean well, it never dries the load & often doesnt release the powder. The top shelf is wobbly and as such it often releases itself from the side runners. The spinning arms are often obstructed because of this also. You must rinse everything to have any hope of the load coming out clean. The filter must be cleaned every load. Water does not seem to get hot enough.tThe cutlery basket is useless.

Terrible
It drove me beserk to have to soak then scrape recycled muck off supposedly 'clean' plates every morning. When opening the door after a cycle, it would splash you as it never drained properly, let alone dry anything. The door itself seems badly assembled and never seems to close properly. Warning: stay away.
It really does a mediocre to poor job, takes hours and is wet on completion

Terrible
Please stay away. Even a 500 dollar dishlex is probably better than this piece of junk. I get a tough time from my wife all the time because of this dishwasher. It doesn't work 100% and if it does dishes are either not clean or not dry.
The colour is good. Matches the Decor of our kitchen which has a stainless steel theme. That's about all.
A lot!:
1) I think the only cycle which cleans properly is 'Regular Plus'. The rest are completely useless.
2) It uses too much water in the regular plus mode.
3) Dishes are never dry whichever cycle you use.
4) The dishwashing powder is 'NEVER' used. For the past 1 year (we have had it for 3 years) I have to scrape out the cleaning poweder using a knife. The dispenser never works.
5) The upper basket is quite unstable and has broken twice for us. (In terms of the wheels which make it run in the channels.

Terrible
Stay away from this model. It is not worth the problems you will have. It uses too much water and is very noisy.
It is white
The wheels continually break. You would think they could sell them for less than $40 a set of 4 considering how often they need replacing. It doesn't always dry the dishes. Food scraps have to be scraped off. It will become a white anchor in the future.

OK
Simpson Silencio 850 Dishwasher Repair Manual Manual
This dishwasher was in the unit when we bought our home. I only use the diswasher when we have friends or family over as I feel it uses too much water and I have it on the economical cycle. It gets all the dishes, pots, pans & the glasses very clean (no complaints). What the cost is to run I don't know, but I wouldn't mind finding out. It has'nt broken down as yet so I have nothing to complain about. An okay machine.
A good looking unit from the outside that makes the kitchen nicer.
I feel that it possible uses a lot of water.
