When the manual safety is disengaged, Smith & Wesson’s Product Engineering Group has determined that the possibility exists in certain firearms that lowering the hammer may cause a chambered round to fire. This recall applies to all Walther PPK and PPK/S pistols manufactured by Smith & Wesson from March 21, 2002, until February 3, 2009. Walther's Patent Cal 7,65 m/m. Walther Arms is the U.S. Based part of Walther, a global leader in handgun innovation and quality. The Walther PPK and PPK/S pistols affected were made by Smith & Wesson from March 21, 2002 to February 3, 2009 with the following serial numbers: 0010BAB – 9999BAB 0000BAC – 9999BAC. May 06, 2012 I own a Walther.380 stainless PPK/S serial number 3414AAA pictured in these attached photo’s. From the production history and markings the pistol appears produced under the first year of S&W licensing but before S&W put its own serial numbers on the Walther licensed PPK’s made in Houlton, Maine likely in 2000 or 2001. The series includes the Walther PP, PPK, PPK/S, and PPK/E models. The Walther TPH pocket pistol is a smaller calibre pistol introduced in 1971 identical in handling and operation to the PPK. Various PP series are manufactured in Germany, France, and the United States.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes with a total of two 6-round magazines, one flush-fit and one with finger extension, a factory case with serial-matching end label, a cable lock and a manual. The magazines exhibit only light wear and are in about Fine condition. The case is black plastic marked on the lid with a Walther banner logo. The inside of the case is lined with grey foam. The outside of the case shows a few very light handling marks. The foam lining is compressed in in a few spots from the pistol. The case is in about Fine condition.
Our Assessment: This is a stainless-steel Model PPK pistol made in the USA under license to Walther and distributed by Smith & Wesson. After WWII, Walther had Manurhin make parts for their PP and PPK pistols that Walther then finished, stamped with the Walther name and assembled. Manurhin also made pistols under their own name for sale in the United States. The Gun Control Act of 1968 created a byzantine 'points system' for importing handguns which the PPK failed, leading to the introduction of the slightly larger PPK/s. In 1978, Walther licensed Interarms to make PP and PPK pistols for them, since the pistol was being made in the US, the standard PPK model was once more available! Interarms closed in 1998, interrupting the US production of these pistols. Smith & Wesson and Walther created Walther USA LLC to produce pistols with the existing parts to be distributed by S&W until Smith & Wesson could get their own PPK production going. This example is in about Fine condition with evidence of polishing on the slide and some freckling on the matte-finished top. This is going to make someone a very nice pistol for concealed carry that can also be used for home protection and even has a little bit of collector value due to being a transitional gun. Please see our photos and good luck!

Barrel Length: 3.30”
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a low profile blade with an orange dot, integral to a thin rib on the top of the slide with a small channel cut across the rib immediately to the rear of the front sight. The rear sight is a square notch with a square orange mark below the notch, forming a 2 dot aiming system. The rear sight is dovetailed into the slide. The top of the rib is serrated with a satin matte finish to reduce glare (this matte finish continues down approximately 1/3 of the height of the slide from the rib on both sides).

Bore Condition: The bore is bright, the rifling is sharp and deep. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 96% of its metal finish. There are small scuffs throughout. There is a small mark on each side of the front of the trigger guard from resting the trigger guard on the frame during disassembly. Overall, the pistol looks to have been carried frequently, shot infrequently, and well maintained. The grip screw shows some tool mark from being removed with an under-sized screwdriver. All markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The double action trigger pull is smooth and the single action pull has a crisp break. This pistol has a decocker and last shot hold open. This pistol was sent to Smith & Wesson under recall and corrective action was taken as evidenced by the punch mark on the top of the beavertail in the channel for the hammer. We did not fire this handgun.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes with four 7-round stainless steel magazines, one Walther with black plastic finger extension floorplates, two Mec-Gar with black plastic finger extension floorplates, and one Walther flush-fit floorplate. The magazines have strong springs with un-marred feed lips, in about Excellent condition. Also included is a checkered rubber Pachmayr grip. The grip is two-piece, one includes the left, front, and right faces of the grip, with a second piece to cover the backstrap. The grip features raised ridges on both sides for use as a thumb and trigger finger rest. The grip seems in Excellent condition, though it may need to be cleaned to meet the buyer's maintenance standards.
Our Assessment: Because of the Gun Control Act of 1968, importation of the Walther PPK was disallowed, and Walther enlarged the pistol to the PPK/S model to circumvent the restrictions. The PPK/S was made by Walther in the 70’s and then by license to Walther by Interarms in the 1980’s and 90’s. During the late 1980’s, the Model PPK was also manufactured by Interarms under license to Walther and later by Smith & Wesson. This .380 ACP caliber Model PPK pistol was made by Smith & Wesson in Houlton Maine. It is in Fine condition with about 96% of its finish remaining. The bore is bright with sharp rifling. This pistol will make someone a great carry gun with a double action pull on the first shot, and can also be used for home protection. It is perfect for women and those with small hands but with the extension on the magazines, even those with larger mits can grip well. Walther’s are known for their reliability, and this should give someone decades of shooting fun. Please see our pictures and good luck!
